WordPress Runs Wealth Management — But Is It AI-Ready?

Dek: WordPress powers half of all wealth management websites in the WMLPH index. Here’s what the data reveals about its strengths, weaknesses, and AI readiness.

If there’s one technology that defines the wealth management web, it’s WordPress. According to the WMLPH – Wealth Managers: Lean Powerhouses index, 488 out of 963 analyzed firms (50.7%) run their websites on WordPress — making it the industry’s dominant platform by a wide margin.

But dominance doesn’t mean readiness. As AI reshapes how clients discover advisors, the question isn’t just “What platform are you on?” — it’s “Is your platform built for the next era of search?”

#### The Tech Landscape

The index reveals a clear hierarchy in wealth management site technology:

WordPress: 488 firms (50.7%) Unknown/Custom: 278 firms (28.9%) Squarespace: 90 firms (9.3%) Modern JS (React, Next.js, Gatsby, Vue): 18 firms (1.9%)

The remaining sites are scattered across GoDaddy Website Builder (22), Wix (15), Drupal (27), HubSpot CMS (6), Joomla (6), Webflow (4), Weebly (5), Netlify (3), and Ghost (1).

#### WordPress: The Good and the Concerning

WordPress’s strengths for wealth management are real: it’s flexible, has a massive plugin ecosystem (including Yoast SEO, schema generators, and CRM integrations), and is well-understood by AI crawlers. WordPress sites in the index averaged 2.39 brain cues violations, compared to 1.96 for Squarespace — suggesting that Squarespace’s more constrained templates may actually help firms avoid common UX pitfalls.

But WordPress also carries risks. Many of the WordPress sites in the index were clearly running outdated themes or plugins. 83.4% of all analyzed firms (regardless of platform) had no detectable marketing automation — and while WordPress makes CRM integration easy, most firms haven’t taken that step.

#### The Modern-Stack Advantage

The small cohort of firms running modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Next.js, Gatsby) — just 18 firms — averaged 2.50 violations, slightly above the WordPress average. The sample is small (n=18), so the difference is not meaningful. For AI readiness, what matters most isn’t the platform — it’s the implementation. A well-configured WordPress site with schema markup, a CRM, and fresh content will outperform a custom React site that’s been neglected.
