Dek: Brain cues violations reveal that the vast majority of wealth management firms lose prospective clients in the first three seconds.
You have three seconds. That’s how long a website visitor takes to form a first impression of your firm. And according to the WMLPH – Wealth Managers: Lean Powerhouses index, 99% of wealth management firms fail that test.
The index evaluated 963 firm websites for “brain cues violations” — UX problems that prevent a visitor from quickly understanding what a firm does, why it matters, and what to do next. The results are sobering.
#### The Violations, Ranked
The average firm carries 2.4 violations. Only 1 site in the entire index had zero violations detected.
#### Why This Compounds the AI Problem
AI-driven discovery doesn’t just surface your site — it surfaces your messaging. If an AI model recommends your firm and a prospect clicks through, the homepage experience is your only chance to convert. A vague headline (“Your Financial Future Starts Here”) tells a prospect nothing. A missing CTA means there’s no obvious next step. Generic stock imagery of smiling couples on a beach screams “template.”
The firms that combine strong AI visibility with strong homepage experience will dominate the next generation of client acquisition. Right now, virtually nobody has both.
#### The Tech Connection
The data reveals an association between site technology and UX quality. WordPress sites averaged 2.39 violations, Squarespace sites 1.96, and sites on modern JS frameworks averaged 2.50 (n=18). The platform matters less than the execution — but Squarespace’s constrained templates may help prevent common layout and messaging missteps.
