Robert Half, TEKsystems, and the Search Oligarchy: Who Owns Staffing's AI Real Estate

The same top 10 firms appear in nearly every AI search result about staffing. Here's what that means for everyone else.

If you ask an AI assistant to recommend staffing firms, you'll get a list. It will be remarkably consistent across queries, across platforms, and across phrasing. And it will feature the same names: Robert Half, TEKsystems, Insight Global, Randstad, Kforce, Aerotek, and a small handful of others.

These firms form what amounts to a search oligarchy in the staffing industry. According to the SRTR index analysis of 1213 staffing firms, the top 10 scored between 70.0 and 94.0 on a composite visibility scale — dominating both branded search (where buyers search for them by name) and non-branded search (where buyers search for "best staffing firms" generically).

Robert Half tops the chart at 94.0, appearing in 9 of 10 queries — from "best staffing firms in the US" to "best staffing agencies for finance jobs" to "top staffing companies revenue ranking." The firm's specialization in finance and accounting, combined with its 75+ year history and NYSE listing, gives it multi-dimensional authority that AI systems tend to prioritize.

TEKsystems and Insight Global, both at 88.0, dominate IT staffing queries specifically. Their visibility is reinforced by parent company branding (Allegis Group for TEKsystems) and consistent ClearlyRated awards that generate third-party citations — exactly the kind of external validation that AI models appear to weigh heavily.

The concentration of visibility raises important questions about market dynamics. With 1213 firms in the index and only 10 consistently appearing in search results, the AI-powered search landscape may be reinforcing winner-take-all dynamics in staffing. Mid-market firms with strong regional presence and excellent placement records are being crowded out not by inferior service, but by a thinner digital footprint.

For industry observers, the takeaway is clear: in the AI search era, brand authority and content investment aren't marketing nice-to-haves — they appear to be the price of admission to the consideration set.
